Thesis: Nothing 2 Fear

Irrational fears, or phobias, are persistent and sometimes extreme fears that are related to certain situations or objects. The US National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) estimates that nearly 9.1% of American adults, more than 19 million American adults suffer from a specific phobia or fear. I’ve come to realize an interesting element about the depiction of phobia in media and in art mediums: it is often depicted negatively. Phobia either has a really negative or stigmatized depiction where it is used as a source comedy, or it is portrayed as this terrifying and monstrous thing consuming people’s minds. I believe that this is so, because of the negative connotation with the fear and the idea of irrationality. For my 2020 thesis I decided to juxtapose this sort of negative topic, with a positive and informative spin. The final form of thesis form I decided to create a nonprofit called Nothing II Fear that would center around a social awareness campaign that would focus on highlighting phobia, empathizing with sufferers, and informing the public about these topics.

N2f is the acronym for Nothing 2 Fear. For the final logo, I had planned to animate the letters of the logo using adobe after affects (especially the dots of the roman numerals since they looked liked the eyes of my logo).

Thesis: The Process

Although the final execution of this project was 72 hours, this project saw me doing weeks of research on phobia depiction. This flip book contains all the thoughts and steps for each part of this project.
